Qatar Academy International Baccalaureate

Director's Welcome

Dear Qatar Academy Parents,

I want to welcome you to the 2017 – 18 school year. This is my second year as director of Qatar Academy, and I am excited about the prospect of continuing my work at Qatar. My wife and I spent the summer visiting family and friends and I returned in late July to begin planning for another exciting school year.
Since the first week of August, our new teachers have been engaged in well–defined teacher orientation program. Orientation topics included gaining an understanding of curriculum in place at Qatar Academy as well as an introduction to developing cultural competencies. It is important that Qatar Academy continually strives to improve the education we offer to our students.
We actively seek to improve as an institution by participating in the process of accreditation as well as thinking and acting strategically on our mission and vision statements. Our Strategic Plan has provided us with the opportunity to engage in a reflective exercise identified by the three prestigious international agencies: the Council of International Schools (CIS), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the International Baccalaureate (IB). Last year we completed a self-study and prepared reports to send to the accrediting agencies. This year we will receive a visit from a team of evaluators from these agencies. They will come to review our processes and procedures and make recommendations for any improvements. We look forward to welcoming them to QAD.
This is our fourth year of implementing the Middle School model to our community. We provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum for students in grade 6 – 8. Our teachers are specifically trained to teach the students in the middle grades, and we have a robust co-curricular program designed to meet their needs beyond the classroom. At the High School level, we continue to feature the MYP curriculum in grades 9 and 10 while preparing our students for their university education by offering the IB Diploma program in grades 11 and 12. This will also be the is also the second year of offering the prestigious “e-assessments” to our Grade 10 students. We use the reports from this assessment to guide instructional decisions for our students.
The QA community supports and challenges students to be critical thinkers, and active and contributing members of society, through learning experiences serving the needs, interests and learning styles of each student.

Sincerely,

Mr. Don MacIntyre, Director
