Dear Qatar Academy Parents,
I want to welcome you back to the 2015 – 16 school year. This is my fourth year as director of Qatar Academy, and I look forward to greeting our newly-hired faculty and students. Since the latter part of August 2015, our new teachers have been engaged in well –defined teacher orientation program. Orientation topics included gaining an understanding of curriculum in place at Qatar Academy as well as an introduction to developing cultural competencies. It is important that Qatar Academy continually strives to improve the education we offer to our students.
We actively seek to improve as an institution by participating in the process of accreditation as well as thinking and acting strategically on our mission and vision statements. Our five year Strategic Plan provides us with the opportunity to engage in a reflective exercise identified by the three prestigious international agencies: the Council of International Schools (CIS), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
We are excited about the imminent changes on the horizon. This is our second year of implementing the Middle School model to our community. We provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum for students in grade 6 – 8. Our teachers are specifically trained to teach the students in the middle grades, and we have a robust co-curricular program designed to meet their needs beyond the classroom. At the High School level, we continue to feature the MYP curriculum in grades 9 and 10 while preparing our students for their university education by offering the IB Diploma program in grades 11 and 12. This is also the first year of offering the prestigious “e-assessments” to our Grade 10 students.
I look forward to seeing each of you this year as we strive to make the mission statement a reality for the students of Qatar Academy.
Qatar Academy’s Mission Statement: Qatar Academy offers a rigorous program encompassing an international English-medium education, strong Arabic and Islamic Studies. The QA community supports and challenges students to be critical thinkers, and active and contributing members of society, through learning experiences serving the needs, interests and learning styles of each student.
