Learning

The learning experience in the EEC is hands-on, engaging and fun. Activities and experiences are created in order to meet the needs and interests of each child. It is important to understand that no matter where each child is in his or her development or where each child is in relation to the others in his or her class, the needs of that child will be met in a nurturing and caring way. The Creative Curriculum has been chosen as our guide specifically for the flexibility it allows for individualization.

During the course of each day, children may spend time learning independently, one-on-one with a teacher, with a friend or two, or with a small group under the direction of a teacher. There isn’t a rigid structure to each day, but experiences based on the children’s interests are planned to encourage inquiry, attentive engagement, independence and balance among social-emotional, physical, cognitive and language development. Just as each child’s interests will guide their activities for the day, each child’s body’s rhythms will dictate the individual routine in his or her days. While a child’s daily routine will continue to be based on his or her interests and physical needs, as each child matures he or she will be encouraged to share experiences such as stories or snack time with some of his or her classmates.

Just as a variety of experiences are planned each day, the children are also exposed to a variety of environments. Each child may spend time in the sensory room, outdoors, or in the art studio. The child may also spend time with children from other classes/age levels in another classroom or exploring another environment.

Statement of Belief

We believe that a quality early childhood experience requires educators to be well qualified and to work as a team to effectively create the best learning environment for the children in their care.

We believe a quality program creates an environment in which each child’s language, culture, diversity and unique gifts are deeply respected and celebrated.

We believe that children are naturally curious about their surroundings. A quality program encourages and facilitates the child’s interest and exploration.

We believe that children’s learning is challenged and extended through developmentally appropriate, interactive, creative and fun experiences.

We believe that children learn best in a nurturing environment that encourages independence and builds self-confidence.
