QA Umrah trip 2017 As part of Qatar Academy's continued efforts to strengthen the Islamic identity of its students, the Islamic Department organized an Umrah trip from January 17th to January 22nd 2017. 72 students and 5 parents were accompanied by 9 chaperons from the teaching staff joined the trip that aimed to facilitate the students' spiritual development as well as accommodating key components of the IB curriculum by engaging them in a variety of educational activities. Aside from performing the rituals of Umrah, the trip included visits to some Islamic historical sites that are found around Mecca and Medina. Touring around Mecca and Madina. In addition, the students visited many museums; such as, the Architecture of Kabah museum and the museum of Madinah. The museums display collections of objects depicting the historical stages of Kabah and the prophet Mohammed’s life in Madinah. Furthermore. The students noticed the improved facilities and services that made the trip much easier than how it used to be before introducing these creative solutions. Such observations made the students value and realize the importance of inventions and the role of individual in building their society. The above example clearly reflects the main goal of the trip, which is to provide opportunities for student to apply what they have learned from the International Baccalaureate’s Global Contexts into their own lives. “Qatar Academy has been organizing the Umrah trip for years, we are seeing an increasing number of registered students. We have a big number of Muslim students and providing this trip will help them meet their religious needs. It is an excellent opportunity to visit historical sites and nourish the good relationships they have built with their chaperon teachers.
