Towards a better environment
Nowadays, it has been clear that our globe is facing environmental challenges, such as greenhouse gas emissions, loss of biodiversity, and impacts of climate change. Therefore, there is an urgent need to combat the adverse effects caused by environmental pollution. In an effort to reduce pollution of the environment in Qatar, the Islamic Studies Department at the Senior School has organized an activity to take part in the QF's annual ‘Ghars’ campaign in Education City. The department aims to increase the awareness of students on the risk of pollution by involving them in this campaign. The activity is titled “plant a tree and your reward will be continuous until the Day of Judgment”. It focuses on providing students with a platform to embody what they have been learning in the Islamic Studies curriculum. Additionally, As an IB school, students are encouraged to explore human impacts on the environment in terms of MYP Global Context: globalization and sustainability. A number of grade 10 students participated in this project and planted different plants in the garden of College of Islamic Studies. They demonstrated enthusiasm while they were working in this project. Also, they were able to show their understanding of this important issue and its impact on their lives.
