General School Rules

All Qatar Academy students are expected to exert a high standard of conduct and to comply with the Academy's rules, regulations, accepted behaviors and attitudes. To help the students meet these expectations a set of rules and regulations are clearly stated in the students' handbooks.

Primary school regulations

Code of Conduct

Students are expected to conduct themselves in a positive manner with respect to the entire school body at all times. Those students that show themselves incapable of our trust and who are unable to behave in a responsible manner will face appropriate consequences.

Dress Code

Students are expected to take a pride in their appearance by wearing the correct school uniform which consists of maroon trousers or shorts for boys with white shirts, with QA logo and maroon skirts for the girls with white shirts and a tie. School shoes should be black or maroon, not training shoes.

Attendance Policy

Minimum attendance is set at 90% of the enrolled school days. This does not include extenuating health concerns or a family emergency. It is possible that a student who is absent for 18 days or more will not receive grades on his/her report card or be asked to repeat their current grade. Should a student reach the 10% of the school days, a letter is sent home as a reminder of the attendance policy.

After an absence, the student must submit a note to the classroom teacher.

Campus Safety

Fire drills are carried out once or twice a term.

Personal items are not permitted in school; this includes toys (of any kind), personal stereos, computer games, mobile phones. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum; studs are the only acceptable earrings. Similarly beauty products are not deemed appropriate in school.

Campus Visitors and Guests

Guests and visitors are welcome in school. All are requested to first report to the school secretary.

Senior school regulations

School Day

School starts at 7.10 a.m. with a 10 minute homeroom period where attendance is taken and announcements distributed. If a student is late for homeroom he or she must sign the late book in the Senior School office. Further, if a student is tardy two or more times in any given week, a detention after school will be given.

Behavior

The Senior School expects each student to be respectful of others, be responsible for their actions and to be honest in their dealings with peers and other adults. It is further expected that Senior School students monitor their own behavior and act within the parameters set by the school. A Disciplinary Safety Net has been crafted delineating offences of students who do not meet the behavioral expectations at Qatar Academy.

Uniform

School uniform for males and females is mandatory for Grades 6-12.

Attendance

The attendance policy at the Senior School recognizes as legitimate absences only documented illnesses, recognized religious holidays or family emergencies. Students are expected to attend at least 90% of their scheduled classes in order to receive credit for a given term.

Academic Probation

After each grading term, each student's grades are reviewed. Those falling below the standard set by the Academic Probation Policy will be placed on Academic Probation.

Homework

Qatar Academy Senior School is a university-preparatory institution. To assure success in gaining admission to university, the school instills in each student the responsibility for his or her readiness. Work to be done outside of class is a necessary element of both academic achievement and the development of that sense of responsibility.

School Safety

For the safety and well being of all students, the Senior School is an alcohol, tobacco, narcotic and weapons free school. Any student involved in activities related to these items will face severe disciplinary action that may include expulsion.
All students are allocated a locker for the safekeeping of personal items. Certain items such as mobile phones, disc mans, computer games, are not permitted at school and may be confiscated if found. It is the student's responsibility for any valuable item they may bring to school as the school cannot assume responsibility for any lost or stolen student items.
